Dana Greco

LCSW-R, Certified Divorce Mediator, Divorce Coach, Certified Collaborative Divorce Professional

I was a child of divorce back in the 70’s. Laws were different then but families haven’t changed. A bitter divorce leaves scars. My parents were caught up in a litigious and hostile case causing them both to utterly despise each other. As a child it was hurtful and confusing. Especially when one day my mother and I were shopping at the local grocery store and while walking down the aisle my father happened to be walking up the same aisle, my heart raced and my palms sweat with the reality of them both facing each other. To my horror, they actually passed each other without a greeting or an acknowledgment.

I know if it were just me in the store my dad would have hugged and kissed me, but because of the bitterness due to the divorce proceedings their initial reaction to each other was avoidance.

As a child I grappled with the question of  how two intelligent people who once loved each other could become so disconnected?  Without any professional guidance as a family during these depressing years, I could only succumb to one resolution in my heart which is so sad… I prayed that one of my parents would die by the time I graduated high school or got married just to avoid the angst of having them in the same room together.

It’s because of this, I have made it my life’s mission to save families from the destruction of  hostility and bitter divorces and dysfunctional paralysis within the home.

In every divorce case or couple that comes to me, my goals are to help protect the family as a whole regardless of the separation, I believe that even though parents choose to live separate lives they are capable of maintaining a civil relationship and putting their children’s needs over their own. The benefits to mediate rather than litigate are enormous, not only at the present time of the divorce process but for years to come in the evolution of the family. The outcome when mediation is the preferred choice is a communicative one. Since the divorce never became bitter but rather both spouses had the opportunity to negotiate and be treated fairly neither one holds resentment. This is the key to an ongoing, functioning relationship which benefits their children for years after. I treat every family uniquely, because I know that each family has their own personal needs and stories. It is my job to meet the needs of each member of the family and help set them in the right direction so they can continue to move forward finding fulfillment and satisfaction in their own lives as well as be there for each other.

Don Desroches

Certified Divorce Mediator, Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, Certified Collaborative Divorce Professional, PMP

I have been divorced twice and one time through litigation and one time through mediation.  It is with this experience that gives me the determination and passion to improve upon my mediation experience and to keep couples from going through an ugly litigation process.  Litigation brings out the worst in people that easily carries over to the children.  It can take years to recover and some people never recover either financially or emotionally.

Don is a co-founder and mediator in The Mediation and Family Counseling Group.  He has helped clients, even high conflict clients, come to resolutions to end the marriage in an amicable way.

He has worked with personal and professional finances, helping couples to navigate the minefields of divorce.  Pulling together financials and helping them understand the future impact post divorce.

Don has earned the highly regarded CERTIFIED DIVORCE FINANCIAL ANALYST or CDFA designation from the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts, enabling him to thoroughly review the finances of divorce and provide the appropriate information to allow the couple to make the best decision they can.  Without the right information and knowledge, the couple may be making decisions that can impact them negatively in the future after divorce.  Additionally, he is registered with FINRA as an S99 designation for work in a financial services firm.

He has over 20 years of experience in the Financial Services industry, providing him the ability to understand the complexities of each individual’s finances during divorce.

He has experience with divorce litigation, helping couples pull together finances and understanding the financial impact on their future post divorce.  This includes creating household budgets, net worth statements, financial net worth projections, tax implications on transferred assets, etc.

Additionally, I am a member of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation.
